It's an awsome article about "slashing the slasher" and it has blown me away while I was reading.
I was thinking about myself and that it's totaly true. Fran and I where discussing it for a while, and both of us came to the same result.
It's the truth!
When you write slash you probably should read this.

my thoughts about it:
I think that when we read slash it's something like a short romance without the trouble and heartbreaking. No emotion, no fears just the short moment of joy.
Writing and reading slash is something like a one night stand.
You know what I mean?
I just can talk for myself, but when I write or read slash, I dont think about the trouble or the drama I just think about the story and I've got a short moment of joy when I think about people who might like it.
I gave joy to them with writing smut/angst or what ever turns them on.
On the other hand there is the me who reads slash.
I just pick my poison, my kink. I dont read storys who dont "turn me on". It's like beeing in a club seeing a guy you like flirting and then having sex without talking without giving away phone numbers, just the short moment of Joy.
Thats what slash is in one way, i think.
When I write slash I mostly think about woman as the reader (maybe because there are more women then men or whatever, the point is i think about women while writing), and when you think about the fact that writing allways where a way stimulating other, than and im really sure about this point, than everything is clear.
You think about turning on a woman, just because you can or maybe this is a way of doing things you never really imagine, without the trouble. No coming out no nothing.
Its sort of a "save way".
In history men where writing songs and poems to their beloved ones, to show them their feelings.
And think about a good romance novel, when I read it im automaticaly the heroine and the strong man comes to me to save me from the evil lord.
When you read slash you see yourself as a part of it(just me...and not always :))
Its like mary sues. So you write slash, and its ok because you write about two men. But you know that another woman reads it, and you stimulating her brain. maybe she can feel the touches Orlando gets from Viggo. The storys are a bridge from one person to another.
You satisfy another persons needs.
And just think about the fact that women are allways more about stimulating the brain ;)

Date: 2004-03-14 03:46 pm (UTC)I think you're so right about the Joy. That's the only reason we right fanfic, and slash. It makes the writer happy and hopefully makes the reader happy too. And thinking about the female reader while writing about men having sex. OMG! *what's left of brain explodes*

It's sort of an emotional connection, than you read it and in the second you start (when you read a good fic) you enter the other persons mind.
Thats so scary, or is it just me?
Think about what you can do, you can manipulate people (a little bit...maybe).

And all the time I think about me and fran and how the world around sees us. Her mum said things like "your better half" and "your girl" and stuff like that, and thats so weird cuz til now I never thought about it but now I think that we act really slashy or soemthing like that.

Another really slashy pairing is toye and guarnier (I so hope I wrote the names right gg). When toye came back from hospital and guarnier was so happy, that was a surely cute moment.
and when theyre both got insured (is that the right word?) it allmost broke my heart *girly sigh*

Oh I know this one, it's so sweet and so heartbreaking.
I still think that those are one of the "bigger" pairings. I mean Winters and Nixon where slashy and Toye and Guarnere where slashy too. They had more than just subtext lol
Another "pairing" I just loved where Eugene and Rene, it was so adorable when she gave him the chocolate *sigh*
Oh and thx for liking the icon lol, I so need more Icons. I think it's really depressing that I cant upload more Icons for me to use *sob*
